The Horizon 8P is a 24 in / 32 out Thunderbolt 3 audio interface built around eight Audient console mic preamps with AURA Control variable impedance. Paired with 32 bit conversion at 133dB dynamic range and 0.99ms round trip latency, the 8P puts a complete, console grade tracking front end in a single rack unit — designed for the producer or studio capturing performances with real analogue character and headroom

At a glance

8 Mic/Line preamp channels, with JFET Instrument Inputs on channels 1–2

8 switchable D-sub line returns and 8 independent D-sub line outputs

Dedicated Main monitor outputs, 2 additional TRS line outputs, 2 headphone outputs and 4 Independent Mixes

2 optical digital input/output banks for ADAT or S/PDIF

BNC word clock and Thunderbolt connectivity for multi-device Horizon systems. Cascaded Horizon systems must be clocked via BNC word clock

Channels 1 and 2 also provide front panel JFET Instrument Inputs, giving guitars, basses and other instrument level sources a direct route into the same input channels. Preamp gain, phantom power, Pad, the variable high pass filter and ORBIT impedance can be controlled from the hardware or Horizon Control, so the front panel and software work as two views of the same input system.

Monitoring is built into the same workflow. Horizon 8P provides dedicated Main monitor outputs, two additional TRS line outputs, two independently controlled headphone outputs and four Independent Mixes for cue or alternate monitoring balances. The additional TRS outputs can be used for line output routing or as an alternate monitor path through a Monitor Profile. The low latency Mixer in Horizon Control lets you build those balances separately from the level being sent to the DAW for recording.

Two optical digital input and output banks provide ADAT or S/PDIF connectivity, while BNC word clock handles digital synchronisation. Two Thunderbolt ports connect Horizon to the host computer and allow additional Horizon devices to be added to the system. Up to four Horizon devices can be used together, with one unit acting as the Primary device for active monitoring.

The Motion UI display and Control Wheel provide direct access to the most useful input, output and monitoring functions from the hardware. Horizon Control expands that into the full Mixer, Monitor Controller, Monitor Profiles, Speaker Layouts, Metering, Routing Matrix and device settings covered throughout this manual.
